Why Blogs Still Matter – As Featured in the BIPP’s Photography Magazine
I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been featured in the latest issue of The PHOTO-GRAPHER — the official magazine of the British Institute of Professional Photography (BIPP).
In this issue, I’ve contributed a piece that explores a question I hear time and time again from professional photographers: “Is blogging still worth it?”
With so many platforms to juggle and the rise of AI-generated content, it’s easy to assume blogging might be outdated or irrelevant. But in my article, I suggest that that’s far from the truth, especially for photographers looking to build a sustainable, search-optimised marketing strategy.
From improving your online visibility to showcasing your expertise and building trust, photographers’ blogs still have a powerful role to play in the overall marketing mix, and I explain exactly why inside the article.

Strategic blogging still works!
Within the article in The PHOTO-GRAPHER magazine, I share:
- Why blogging isn’t dead, although it is evolving
- How search engines still prioritise written content
- Practical ways photographers can use blogging to attract clients in 2025 and beyond
This article is part of a broader remit of mine to inspire photographers to create content on their websites for greater visibility.
Through providing blog and SEO copywriting services to photographers, I know first-hand that a photographer’s blog is an impactful way of improving website rankings and boosting website traffic.
Over the past ten years, as I’ve been blogging for myself and my clients, I’ve found that a well-written, interesting, and relevant blog can help photographers in any niche stand out and get found by those searching for their services.
For over a decade, I’ve been helping professional photographers write blog content that ranks highly on Google and supports their business growth. From one-to-one mentoring to group programmes and done-for-you blogging, I’m passionate about showing how strategic blogging still works.

The untapped potential of photographers’ blogs to attract ideal clients
There is so much untapped potential for a photographer’s blog to deliver real business results, but that potential is lost when blogging is abandoned too soon. Many photographers begin with good intentions, only to stop after a handful of posts.
The result? A neglected blog can reflect poorly on your brand and give the impression your business is inactive, inconsistent or unprofessional.
It’ll also make it unlikely that Google will index and rank your articles, which means that you won’t show up in its results pages for relevant keywords and phrases. Your competitors who are more invested in blogging will though!

Why am I such a big advocate for blogging?
Because it still works for me and my clients! I regularly write blog articles that land in those highly coveted top spots on Google within just 24 hours of publishing, and that directly generate sales of my photography services. More and more, I also hear from prospective clients who say they “found me via ChatGPT.”
That’s no coincidence. Search-optimised blog content doesn’t just boost your visibility on Google, it can also get you featured in the new AI Overviews at the top of search results, and even mentioned directly in responses from AI tools themselves.
These results aren’t accidental. They’re the outcome of strategic blogging and content optimisation — the same techniques I use in my marketing and teach my clients.
The art of strategic blogging
Yes, there’s an art to effective blogging. But when done right, it delivers major benefits:
- A significant increase in website traffic
- Greater visibility across platforms
- And, most importantly, more of those all-important enquiries and bookings.
When used well, a blog becomes far more than just a place to share recent shoots. It’s a powerful platform to attract your ideal clients. You can draw them in through search engines, showcase your personality and expertise, and build trust through valuable, story-driven content.
From answering FAQs and sharing client stories to demonstrating your unique style and process, your blog can set you apart from competitors. And when planned and optimised strategically, it becomes an evergreen marketing asset that works for your business 24/7.
