Reflections on the Portrait Photography Mastery Summit 2025
September always feels like a natural reset point. After the summer break, routines fall back into place, and it’s the perfect moment to pause, reflect on what’s working in your photography business, and explore new ways to grow.
That sense of renewed focus made it the perfect time for the Portrait Photography Mastery Summit 2025, and what an incredible event it turned out to be!

A Successful Three-Day Education Event for Portrait Photographers
Hosted by Tanya Smith, Creator and Host of The Mastery Summit and renowned Educator for Portrait Photographers, this year’s summit brought together more than 28 expert speakers and hundreds of passionate portrait photographers from around the world.
Over three inspiring days, the event offered a mix of creative and business-focused training designed to help photographers refine their craft, build confidence, and strengthen their marketing and business foundations.
It was an absolute pleasure to be part of such a vibrant and engaged photography community. Connecting with so many talented photographers was great fun and a total pleasure.

My Expert Session: PR for Photographers
How to Leverage the Media to Get Featured, Get Visible and Get Booked
As one of the Portrait Photography Mastery Summit speakers, I had the opportunity to deliver a session on one of my favourite topics: PR for photographers. I was delighted to share practical PR strategies to help them grow and gain visibility in their businesses.
During the talk, I shared actionable ways photographers can harness the power of media coverage to boost visibility and credibility, without relying on social media algorithms or expensive ads.
We explored how to:
✅ Identify what makes a photographer truly media-worthy
✅ Craft a press-ready media bio and portfolio
✅ Pitch stories to the press with confidence
✅ Turn media features into meaningful authority and client trust

The response was wonderful, with so many photographers reaching out to say how inspired they felt to start pitching and sharing their own stories with confidence.
I also received lovely positive feedback on the PR resources I created for the summit; a free pitching guide, available to all attendees, and a more in-depth PR guide for delegates who upgraded their ticket to snag this and other VIP goodies.
The Portrait Photography Mastery Summit
Being part of the Portrait Photography Mastery Summit was not only a rewarding professional experience but also a wonderful way to connect with photographers who are serious about building sustainable, visible, and thriving businesses.
I’m so grateful to Tanya Smith for organising such a well-curated event and for inviting me to contribute alongside so many respected educators in the industry.
If you’re discovering this after the event, I’d highly recommend keeping an eye out for future summits hosted by Tanya. This was the fourth year she ran the event, and they’re always packed with value, inspiration, and practical tools to help portrait photographers succeed.
Over three inspiring days, attendees gained fresh ideas, practical strategies, and expert insights to help them finish the year strong and set themselves up for success in the months ahead.
And, from my talk specifically, they gained practical PR strategies that they could implement right away to start landing valuable press coverage for their portrait photography business, without needing a huge following or hiring an agency.
